Joseph B. “Joey” Head is a lifelong resident of Holmes County and a dedicated law enforcement professional with more than 25 years of service to communities across the region. Born and raised in Tchula, Mississippi, he began his career as a police officer in his hometown, where he developed a deep commitment to public safety and community trust.

Over the course of his career, Head has served in multiple leadership roles, including Patrolman and later Captain with the Lexington Police Department. In Lexington, he supervised patrol operations, strengthened departmental training, and supported community‑oriented policing strategies. His strong performance and leadership led to continued advancement and broader responsibilities.

Head went on to serve 12 years as Chief Deputy with the Yazoo County Sheriff’s Department, where he directed daily operations, managed personnel and disciplinary processes, oversaw budgets and resource planning, and led major incident responses. His work emphasized accountability, preparedness, and strong relationships with local officials and residents.

In addition to his law enforcement roles, Head has held various administrative and chief‑level appointments, where he modernized procedures, enforced operational standards, and guided departments through personnel, safety, and complaint‑resolution processes.

Beyond his professional responsibilities, Head is deeply involved in community and faith‑based service. He serves as Chairman of the Deacon Ministry at Mt. Calvary M.B. Church and is active in mentorship efforts for youth and support programs for senior citizens. His leadership is grounded in values of faith, fairness, teamwork, and transparency.

Throughout his career, Joseph B. Head has remained committed to serving the people of Holmes County with integrity, professionalism, and a focus on strengthening the relationship between law enforcement and the communities it serves.
